I believe its a children's book about a girl named Denise and a boy
named Doug, and they play house with their "babies" Annabell, Besty
and Bonnie, which are animals. They pretend to get married and the
babies get sick, then Dr. Dan comes to take care of them. Denise goes
shopping, Doug works. At the end the are Driving away in a Red
Convertible.

I believe it is likely that your book is "Little Mommy," by Sharon
Kane, a Little Golden Book from 1967. The pretend children are named
Annabelle, Betsy, and Bonnie, and a little boy dressed as a doctor
comes to diagnose a pretend illness. However, Annabelle, Betsy and
Bonnie are dolls, not animals. The little boy who is the pretend daddy
is named Billy.

You can see the cover and the title page of "Little Mommy" on this page:

From the page linked above, here are some words from the book that may
jog your memory:

"These are my children and I am the mommy. My children are Annabelle,
Betsy, and Bonnie. They are good little children and do just as I say.
We put on their coats and they go out to play. Billy is Daddy, he
works in the city. He has a new car. Isn't it pretty? One of the
little dollies gets sick and they call for Dr. Dan. He says he'll come
as quick as he can."

If this is the correct book, I'll be glad to post it as your official answer.

Best Description yet. thanks, my mother will be happy, its her
childhood memory. I consider this question answered. I can't really
tell unless I get the book and look through it, but they are so rare
and expensive that I wont be able to check.

I'm always pleased to be able to assist in identifying a book from a
childhood memory!

As you've already discovered, "Little Mommy" is long out of print, and
has become a collector's item which is usually sold at a high price. I
worked for several years in a used book store, and we sometimes
obtained "collectible" books from garage sales, flea markets, thrift
stores, and other places where old books are sold. Your best bet for
obtaining "Little Mommy" at a reasonable price is probably to keep an
eye out for sales of older books by private individuals, schools,
churches, or charity organizations such as Salvation Army. Another
distinct possibility is that the book might be generating enough
interest and nostalgia that it may be reprinted.

I found some more nice photos of images from "Little Mommy." Scroll
down, and click on the small pictures near the bottom of the page:

My Google search strategy:

Google Web Search: "little mommy" sharon kane

I hope this was helpful!
