How many digits of the square root of two have been calculated? I have
done a little bit of searching on this topic and I know that some guys
from NASA have calculated 10 million digits, but that was in the 90's.
So I would like to know if anyone has ever calculated more than 10
million digits, and if so, then how many digits have they calculated,
and how long did it take?

hclewk-ga,

The calculation of 10 million digits for the square root of two still
seems to hold the record, even though it's about a decade old.

pi seems to be of more interest to numbers-types, and has been
calculated out to many millions of digits, in ever longer lists of
numbers.

But the sqaure root of two seems to get much less attention from
super-computer endowed number-ologists, and 10 million is as far as
it's gotten, as far as I can tell.

Would details about the 10-million digit effort suffice as an answer
to your question?
