I need a specific quote from Zorba the Greek by tomorrow morning. It
has to do with the "freedom" of a potter at a potter's "wheel". I
belive those two words are in the quote as well as a description of
the spinning pot that is something like "wrrrrrrrr!". It's about
forming a lump of clay and the creation of the pot and the freedom of
the moment. I also see to remember the phrase "lump of clay" in it.
Something like "do you know what it means to take a lump of clay..."
You'll know it when you see it. I couldn't find it online. Can you?
Thanks! |

This quote comes from Nikos Kazantzakis' novel "Zorba the Greek:
"I was a potter. I was mad about that craft. D'you realize what it
means to take a lump of mud and make what you will out of it? Ffrr!
You turn the wheel and the mud whirls round."
Please let me know if this is the quote you're seeking.

Sorry, I truncated the quote in my post above.
Try this one:
"I was a potter. I was mad about that craft. D'you realize what it
means to take a lump of mud and make what you will out of it? Ffrr!
You turn the wheel and the mud whirls round, as if it were possessed
while you stand over it and say: I'm going to make a jug, I'm going to
make a plate, I'm going to make a lamp and the devil knows what more!
That's what you might call being a man: Freedom!"

Yes, that's it! However, I need the next line or so that finishes the
idea. I think he says something like - "that is freedom" or something
like that. Would it be possible to have the next line or two? Thanks
in advance.
