Question ID: 739001
Is there software product that will save my user names and passwords
automatically? Let's say I join a fourmn and enter a user name and
password.
Since keeping track of the dozens of names and words I have hinders my
joining more communities.

It would be good if when entering a new name/word combination, a
software program could ask me if I want to save it. And it gets saved
somewhere with all the other name/word combinations I have, and I can
review the list any time I want. If I don't want to save it (say it's
a very important account) I opt No when asked.

But maybe I'm just excessively lazy.
Thanks,
Patrice

Assuming you are only interested in saving the UserIDs and Passwords
used in conjunction with browsing the world wide web (as opposed to
logging in to some connection or remote machine), you may already have
this ability.

The Mozilla Firefox web browser can remember all of your web site
login information, just like Internet Explorer, however, unlike
Internet Explorer, Firefox provides a facility for editing or viewing
this information.

To view such information in Firefox, navigate through the menus: Tools
--> Options --> Passwords --> View Saved Passwords.

I realize I may come off as a salesman for Firefox (even though it's
free). I'm not affiliated with the software, just a satisfied
customer!

My post here is simply to point out you would be killing two birds
with one stone -- three actually, since Firefox would automatically
enter the login information for you as well.

Most importantly, whether you use some external program or your web
browser to store the info, you need to back up your computer. The last
thing you want to do is lose your entire list of logins.

Hope this helps.

ow! I didn't know about that feature on Firefox, which I already use.
Very cool. Thanks gator!

As for the other software options, I think this Firefox feature
delivers what I was looking for.

Thanks to all,
Patrice
