Hello hallsteve11-ga, Thank-you for your question. It is difficult to find repliable estimates on this answer as a number of my original searches only brought up estimates plucked out of thin air! The answer obviously varies wildly between light internet users and heavy users, the type of site users visit, the day of the week and may also vary country-to-country. The information I have managed to locate also appears to indicate that the number of pages is increasing year by year. I therefore tried to focus my searches on newspaper articles (as they frequently review and assess company press releases indicating data such as what you require). The company that turns up time and again whilst researching this question was comScore. "comScore maintains massive proprietary databases that provide a continuous, real-time measurement of the myriad ways in which the Internet is used and the wide variety of activities that are occurring online. (..) Mission-critical information relating to both offline and online activities is collected through comScore's innovative use of the Internet ? the world's most timely and efficient data collection medium." http://www.comscore.com/ They are frequently quoted in the mainstream media and I would suggest that they are a reliable source of information. Another site that also indicated it collected these figures was Nielsen Net Ratings but unfortunately I could not find the data on their site to back up some of the claims found on the internet. "ComScore finds, for example, that U.S. Hispanics viewed 122.5 pages per day on average, compared to the U.S. average of 120.5 pages a day." http://publications.mediapost.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Articles.showArticleHomePage&art_aid=40714 This article was compiled in 2006 (but I could not find the direct source online - it may be that it is only data that you can access for a fee from comScore). If you wish to request the data you may have some success by requesting it here: http://www.comscore.com/press/interview_req.asp "Demographic Page views per month Total Internet Users 2,648" Source: http://www.imediaconnection.com/global/5728.asp?ref=http://www.imediaconnection.com/content/1536.asp 2648 page views per month translates to approximately 88 pages per day in 2003. Another interesting source is: http://mediasavvy.com/archives/000205.shtml - this source indicates a figure of approximately 120 (when averaged over broadband and dial-up usage in 2003). * The average Internet user visits more than 1,268 web pages per month. (Source: Nielsen Net Ratings - http://www.nielsen-netratings.com) http://www.transportweb.com/general/advertise.php Using this research and my experience from running several websites I would estimate that the number of page views the average Internet surfer sees in one day is 100-150. If you require any further assistance on this subject please do not hesitate to ask and I will attempt to provide the additional support. Search strategy: Google - average (person or user) * (web) pages per (day or month) Google News - average (person or user) * (web) pages per (day or month) comScore Press releases |

generationtalk=ga, You might want to check with the Google Answers Team on this. The "Terms of Service" for Google Answers states: "You may not sell, use, reproduce, modify, edit, translate, publish, perform, display, post, transmit and distribute questions, comments or answers for any public or commercial purpose without the written permission of Google." http://answers.google.com/answers/termsofservice.html You might also want to make your reference to Google more user-friendly; right now, it just says "Source: Google Answers - Thank You" at the end of your posting of this answer. There is no web site link to the original. |
