This question may take some technical know-how.
I wish to play Homeworld v. 1.05B on a wireless ad-hoc network. The
computers involved are
Dell 9300
XP Media SP2
1.7 GHz
ATI Card 128 MB
512 MB RAM
Built in Intel Pro Wireless card
The other is an
HP Notebook PC
WIN 2000 SP 4
Intel Celeron 1066MHz
383,980 KB RAM
with a NetGear wireless card.
Video card? Probably integrated. I'll find out if you NEED to know.
Homeworld is installed on both machines, and will run flawlessly. The
adhoc network seems to work between the two. It's an open network, no
encryption. A 'b' network.
My Problem is that when both players go into the Lan setup on
multiplayer, the HP can see itself and the Dell in the lobby, but the
Dell cannot see the HP player, or even it's own lobby name. The Dell
can setup a game, but when the HP joins, it requests indefinitely.
Also, when leaving the LAN mode, the Dell freezes.
I have updated the Dell's Direct X; used a virus scanner. Do not tell
me that Defrag is the answer.
I have tried compatability mode as Windows 98, and NT. The game will
work in NT or XP, but 98 claims I have an invalid CD. I do not.
I'm definitely willing to try any answers, but I will not pay if I
cannot play a LAN game. Ethernet and cords are an option, but you
better give me a good reason why before I go buy the wires. |
