I'm looking for a specific book that teaches XLisp (a dialect of the
Lisp programming language).
I read it in German in the early 90's but I'm not sure whether it was
originally written in German or whether it was a translation -- if it
was, I would be satisfied with information for the German or the
original (probably English) version.
I'm afraid I don't remember any details about it, but the vague
recollection I have is that there are two children in it who are
taught XLisp by a computer, bit by bit ... the book is a mixture of a
story and a tutorial. (I think they were living either in the computer
or in something controlled by the computer, perhaps a spaceship.) I
don't know whether the book had "XLisp" in the title.
Can you tell me author and title, and/or ISBN, of this book?
I've tried searching for it myself but am not sure what search terms
to use; my most promising idea seemed "XLisp Buch". That gives hits
mostly for "XLisp. Die Programmiersprache der KI-Profis" by Johannes
Leckebusch (ISBN 3893901108); however, I haven't been able to find any
information about the book's contents so I can't tell whether it is
the book I'm looking for or not. The title doesn't ring a bell, but
the publication date -- 1989 -- makes it a plausible hit, so if you
can find a summary for that book and it matches what I've mentioned,
that might be a trail. Also,
http://e-books.zfn.uni-bremen.de/lispBuch.pdf says (in footnote 4 on
page 3) that the language is described in David Betz's own book and in
Leckebusch's book. (On the other hand, the playful approach that I
remember from the book might not be such a good fit to a book
described as a language reference.) |
