Let's see: in Moby Dick, Queequeg strapped his seachest on a wheelbarrow, posssibly the first record of wheeled luggage in America. But then he shouldered barrow and chest, and it was over a hundred years before the idea caught on, sometime in the 1970s, I believe. |

I have an english shopping catalogue for 1907 That has steamer trunks with tweels on it. |
