I need a list of all land based sports. I'm writing an ariticle
about the range of activities... the readers are in the USA
so ideally all the sports you can find are currently played
in the USA, though this is not vital. I am interested in
the lesser known sports as much as the main ones.

I'm most intersted in sports which are competitive, non mechanised
not involve animals... things like basketball, baseball that sort
of thing... the MORE the better, at least the top 100 or so.

Again, if the sport is played outside the usa that is fine,
though it would be a big help if you told me where it was played.

I don't want things like archery or shooting
where there is no movement (I want the quick moving ones
eg soccer but not golf, not poker, not snooker etc).

Please include both Team and individual.

For things like running that have various sub categories
like marathon, ultra marathon etc please include all the
extra sub types.

I'm NOT interested in ice, martial arts or water
basedsports.

All I need is a list, simple text is fine, with
one per link.

No particular order, and please use a downloadable
link that expires after 24 hours.

If you can include seperately which ones are the most popular,
and the approximate number of players that would be great too,
though not vital by any means, I'm most interesed
in as big a list of the types of activites as possible.

If the sports is like paintball (ie active, fast but sort of
"mechanised") then that is fine- the speed is thing that matters, but
obviously more mechanised things like car racing is not ok.

thanks

I'm assuming you meant to type "one per line", rather than "one per link".

If I'm mistaken, and you really need links, please clarify what you need.

Thanks.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Here's a list of about 100 action sports, with little or no mechanization.

I think these meet your criteria well, but there is a caveat or two to offer.

Some sports like a triathalon are combined events, and include events
that both do and don't meet your criteria...I've kept these on the
list.

There are a few games with alternative names -- for instance, both
ping pong and table tennis are listed.

And as far as I know, everything listed is a legitimate competitive
event -- even aerobics has its world champions.

Sorry, but I didn't find any ready-made data that would indicate which
are the most or least popular activities on the list.

Let me know if there's anything you need beyond the list, below.
