I'd like to stop the message window from closing after deleting a
message in Outlook 2003.  In the previous version (2002) if I had a
message open and deleted it the message window stayed open and the
next message opened in that view.  Now in 2003 the message window
closes and I am returned to the main Outlook window.  What can I do to
get the desired behavior?

I'm not sure what your settings are, but my Outlook 2003 is set in a
way that the message window does not close after deleting a message.


My View settings are:

Navigation Pane
Status Bar
Reading Pane > Right

Try that and let me know if it helps.

Outlook 2003 Hints & Tip
"By default, when you move or delete an open message in Outlook, you
are automatically returned to the mailbox you are currently working
in. You may choose to configure Outlook to open the previous item or
open the next item after moving or deleting an open item.
To set the Outlook E-mail Options to open an item after moving or
deleting an open message, do the following:
* On the Inbox menu bar, click on Tools.
* Select Options from the Tools menu and click on the E-Mail Options button.
* In the portion of the dialog box labeled After moving or deleting an
open item, click the pull- down arrow to make a choice from the list
that appears.
* Select return to the Inbox. 
* Click Ok.
