On a catalyst 6500, is the CatOS software the same between a Sup1A and
a Sup2? In other words, can I use the same CatOS boot file on both
types of supervisors?

About the CatOS, the same version can support bot SUP1A and SUP2.
Refer to the latest Cisco software release notes of CatOS 8.1 as
below. Not only these two are supported, but also SUP720 is.
