Hello! Thank you for taking the time to solve my conundrum and bear
with me, I know the course request is both terribly specific and long.

An unexpected opportunity has developed within my organization that I
do not want to let slip by which will increase my odds of finding a
transfer once my military base draws to a close next year.

I am in a position to leap from a technical position to a entry level
professional position within my organization, however, the position
requires that I have organic chemistry in order to gain the promotion
(regardless of the fact that I have been in the career field for well
over a decade).

A review of my college courses shows I do not have organic chemistry
among my sciences curriculum.

The expediency calls for the course meeting the following restrictions:

- an undergraduate level organic chemistry course based on semester
credits (regionally / DETC accredited) OR quarter credits which equals
a typical semester 3 credit course. (The only exception being a
foreign equivalent course which has already proven itself to be
readily transferable into the American semester system for the same
amount of credits and can be shown to do so).

- is entirely distance based via print or online (syllabus,
assignments, tests etc) via web / email submission for example. (I
already understand I will have to find a proctored test center).

- must be SELF PACED versus the typical +/- 16 week in classroom type
time restraints allowing me to finish within 4 to 6 weeks (8 at the
most, so say completion no later than end of August if I start 1
July),

- course nomenclature can include elementary or introductory or basic
but not "survey of" or "biochemistry" (for example course can be
called organic chemistry of hazardous materials or organic chemistry
for industrial hygiene or elementary OC or some similar type version
BUT NOT for example "introductory organic AND biochemistry" as it must
be a OC course by itself or a specialized OC such as the ones I
mentioned).

- I need 4 credits. Either 4 by itself, or 3 + 1 (course plus its 1
credit separate lab component) or 3 + 3 (the second being a chemistry
of hazardous materials course for example or other complimentary
course). Regardless all credits MUST be accomplished within the same
time constraints.

The only exception is for online classroom formats where I must be
able to sign up for an almost immediate start date and complete it
within the same 4 to 8 week time period (though I highly doubt any
college is offering this online participation format so late in the
summer), unless of course there is a regional "in classroom" one as I
mention below.

That is a tall order and from what I have seen there are a ton of hits
and not much panning out. Best lead I have is a course offered
through Mountain State University (how many have heard of that one ?
venture a guess where it is without googling?). Even my boss and
coworkers in my small section are searching. I am located in the
Philadelphia metro region and even with all the universities around,
no regional search has panned out yet for distance or in person.

I just would like all my options on the table as I am sure the quality
and straight forwardness of course instruction from one institution to
the next will vary.

Unfortunately it looks like I have to foot the bill for this course
(versus the organization) but given the potential in future job
opportunities, it is well worth my time and effort.

Thank you for your time and consideration in assisting my search!

Hello kissimmee-ga,

I think I?ve found a course that would meet your needs but the website
is confusing so I suggest that you check with the school before I post
my answer.

The Rochester Institute of Technology lists a 3 unit Introduction to
Organic Chemistry class with a corequisite 1 unit Lab that is an
online class that will run from July 17 ? August 4. You have to
contact the instructor for full details. The website doesn?t describe
how the class will be presented or whether it?s self-paced.

I also note that the information about it being a 3-week program is
only shown on the cached version of the website for the course. The
current website doesn?t show dates.

I suggest that you review the course and the related information and
contact the school to see if it will meet your needs.

Please let me know the results and give me the go-ahead to post an official answer.

Thanks.

Hello kissimmee-ga,

Did the course I suggest work for you or should I continue my research? Thanks.

~czh~

I have tried reaching the point of contact but no luck and no luck in
having anyone return an answer to me. Frustrating. I will have to try
again first thing Friday morning. I am not sure how they can "cram
in" a semester's "worth of seat time" into a online format unless they
are expecting the online learner to put in 6-8 hours of time online
during that 3 weeks. I am guessing that the class is three weeks "in
residence" with an ONLINe lab component. However, I am still waiting
for a response and to actually have contact with someone! Will post an
answer Friday morning ASAP!!

Hello ~czh~

Finally spoke with someone, as yes it is an online course, however
they are quarter credits and the person did not know the equivalent
semester rate; but the deal breaker was that she also said a lab is
required and it is in residence at their school for a few days that I
will not be able to make.

If you can continue your research that would be great. ~THANK YOU~
