I keep hearing this phrase "follow the moon" or "follow the sun". What does it mean in a business or technology context? An example being "follow the moon scheduling" of business applications. |

In the modern interconnected world of global business wheeling and dealing, there is a need to be aware of different time zones, and the ebb and flow of business activities as the day begins or ends in each time zone. This has led to reference to "following the sun" as a means of scheduling activities to occur as business starts up their day in different zones. Conversely, "following the moon" means scheduling around nighttime activities as businesses close up shop. I always thought "follow the sun" meant to keep moving around to stay in warm, sunny climates, avoiding winter. Or to go West, thus following the sun. And if it's night time following the moon. Me, I am following soccer, not long now (about 5 minutes) until Australia play Croatia. It is 2:25am 23rd June. I'm not sure how "live" it is though. |

India is situated 5 hours ahead of UK , 10 hours ahead of New York and 13 hours ahead of Los Angeles . US and UK companies can claim overnight response capability because during their night time, it is day time in India and agents in India can respond to emails during Indian business hours. This is known as follow the sun and vice versa is follow the moon |
