I need to find out if Guiafed, which is a compound consisting of
guiaphensen and ephedra, has been used in the treatment of attention
deficit disorder. I also need to find out if there are any long-term
studies done on the continued use of Guiafed for an extended period of
years above the daily-recommended dosage. I also need to find out if
there is a natural alternative to Guiafed other than straight ephedra.

Hi gapgapgap:

I wasn't able to find any information about treating ADD with
*Guaifed*. However, there seem to be some links between certain types
of ADD and alergies (particularly to gluten).

Are you still willing to pay for the other information you requested
about Guaifed?

Hello multigap,

You make want to check into how the Chinese treat ADD with this PDF
document
http://216.239.53.100/search?q=cache:hUHKiLORA7QC:www.redwingbooks.com/html/catalog/desc/ChiMedPsy_Excp.pdf+%22schisandra%22+%22attention+deficit+disorder%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

A Tibetan herb called "Schisandra chinensis" might be worth checking
into. http://herbalhealth.clayparker.net/index.html

Additionally: http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/herbal.htm
As with any other treatment option, we're left with doing some of our
own homework on the pros and cons of each.

Researchers may also want to include the alternative spelling
"guaifenesin" in their search criteria.

Hope this helps,
V
