I work at a Boys and Girls Club. Every day, we let dozens of children
(6 to 16 years old) use club-owned toys. These include all sorts of
things, such as basketballs, roller skates, pogo sticks, board games,
etc. Each child has to return whatever he or she used at the end of
the day.
I am looking for a software program that will let us keep a database
of all of our toys, and let kids easily check items in and out. I
think barcode scanning would be the best way to do this; what do you
think? We could print our own barcodes and stick them to all the
toys. The software has to have a large list of "borrowers," so we
know which kid checked out which toy.
I have been using Delicious Library (http://www.delicious-monster.com)
personally, and it seems pretty close to what I want for the Club.
It's designed only for books, music, and movies, but it works for
other things too. It has barcode scanning functionality, and you can
even use a firewire camera for scanning. That is a great feature I
would like to have. But Delicous Library is only for Mac OS X. I
need a program that could run on Windows XP, and even Windows 95, if
possible. |
