Question ID: 740942
I have a Sony VAIO VGN-T2XP/S with 60GB HD.

The HD is a XP *dynamic* disk splitted in 3 pieces: 1x 7GB NTFS named
"Recovery Partition", 1x 27,95GB NTFS that is my C:, 1x 20,96GB NTFS
that I don't use and I deleted so that now it's unallocated space.

What I want is to extend/resize the 27,95GB "C:" so that is occupies
all the available space (from 27,95GB to 48,91GB).

I tried with various partition manager programs without success
because, they says, it's impossible to resize the system (and in-use)
partition or they don't work with dynamic disks..

Do you know of any solutions that work in this situation?

Otherwise, can you indicate to me an illustred procedure to remove the
HD of this notebook so that I can resize this partition by attaching
the HD to another PC via USB adaptor? I tried to remove 9 screw on
the back but I didn't find the hard disk! this notebook is an enigma..
 Where is it?.....

Try booting the system with a Linux distro, Knoppix comes to mind.
Knoppix has tools for resizing and moving Windows partitions, and
there are write ups and HOWTos on the net. Sorry I don't know if it
does NTFS, though.
Under Linux (and hence Knoppix) there is available a 'parted'
partition editor. Again I am not sure that it does NTFS but it might
do.

In case it is not clear, Knoppix is version of LInux that runs
entirely from the CD without touching your hard-drive (unless you want
it to) and without installing anything. There are free ISO images you
can download, and also CD's and DVD's for sale.

Use Symantec Partition Magic

I had bad experiences with resizing partitions. And I'd consider to do
a full backup before trying it.

But if you have a full backup, why don't you reformat your disc
installing a fresh new O.S. and then restore your backups?

Let me know if you need any clarifications

heh, I was in a similar situation and I had a hell of a time finding a
good, free solution. After numerous searches (during which I stumbled
over this post), I found something "LiveCD":

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

LiveCD is a burnable disc image that you can use to make a bootable CD
that will run the GParted partition manager. It is very easy to use,
you don't need to know anything about unix. It will just boot
straight into the GUI application and is self explanatory.

It has no problems modifying a Windows system partition since Windows
is not running.
