Why does my Cummins marine engine smoke.

Cummins 4B250 produces black smoke at idle speeds.

I've been told that black smoke from an engine can mean that the fuel
is too rich (too much fuel in relation to air).

Agreed...fuel to air mixture is off. Too much fuel.
