What is the total estimated number of managers in the United States?

I define managers this way:

- They work for a for-profit company
- They have people under them whom they manage (managing anywhere from
2 to 2 thousand people and above)
- I include top level people (CEOs, CFOs, etc of big and micro
companies), as well as middle-level managers.
- If possible to seperate white collar managers from blue collar, that
would be best as I am interested in white collar managers


Looking for a reliable source to cite, and as specific a number as
possible. IE: 400,000 managers who meet the following criteria:

Y
Z

If that is impossible, a reasonable guess with good rationale would be great.

I'm sure there are figures for the number of managers in the US, but
they are not likely to be defined the same way you define them.

In particular, there are many managers in government and non-profit
groups, as well as in for-profit companies.

What are your thoughts on how best to proceed?
