Consider a startup technology company with extremely ambitious goals. Compared to more established companies, I believe this situation calls for a CEO with a more autocratic leadership style where decisions can be made quickly by the person who fully understands the vision. I believe this style may even be necessary at this early stage to allow rapid progress on several fronts. I'm looking for multiple references to support this position. There may be contrary arguments; but this is a case where the die has already been set and I need evidence that this leadership style fits the situation. I need links to several articles in serious business publications that I can download. Thank you! |

Genrally speaking I disagree with the thesis. Having been through a very successful startup "ride" from 1997 to 2004, imo the autocratic style of leadership doesn't attract successful people that you need on your leadership team if you want to be a winner. The style may work with a team of b-players and then only for a while. Autocracy just doesn't scale in competitive markets... |
