Elizabeth Cary important?

She is so important that NOBODY has ever heard of her.

Tell your teacher that she must be nuts.

If you just do a Google search for "The Tragedy of Mariam" you'll find
many links like

http://faculty.valpo.edu/bflak/engl420/cary.html)

which will probably be of help.

Have a good day.

probonopublico,

Well, that would make me--having recently completed a dissertation
chapter in which EC figures prominently--along with at least two
members of my committee (both of which have published monographs, one
with Cambridge UP), both "nobodies" and "nuts." Hmmmm. I might qualify
for the the adjectives; I don't think they do.

englishjunkie,

And if you are an English major, I would have to say, as an English
instructor, it's really very nice when students actually read the
works assigned. But if you don't plan to do that, as thither-ga has
noted above, there are many places you can get to via the internet,
both extra-library and intra-library, that will provide you with
reliable information on Cary and "Mariam," particularly if you stick
to .edu sites. Not only are her works significant, but her life is
fascinating as well.

Correction to my previous comment: sub "of whom" for "of which."

Btw, that would be the "canon" of writers, as opposed to "cannon," as
in weapon of war and destruction. To be fair, I still have to think
when I write "desert" and "dessert." :-)

Wow, thursdaylast23, a dissertation chapter in which EC 'figures prominently'!

Of course, any truly 'important writer' would have had a mountain of
work dedicated to him/her.

I am unimpressed.

probonopublico,

Please excuse me for leaving the completely unintended impression that
I might be offering my humble chapter in defence of Cary's importance.
I was simply observing that at least this "nobody" and at two more
less-nobody-like people of my personal acquaintance have heard of Cary
(and, in one case, published work on her).

Again, my apologies. Not trying to impress you or anyone else.

:-)
