I'm running around the world in 24 days completing a half marathon in
24 locations www.GreatWorldRun.com and need to come up with routes in
certain locations - preferably as traffic free as possible ie running
alongside rivers, by sea, in parks, in forests, on pavements - but
generally avoiding traffic lights and road crossing - locations off
interest are Reykjavik, Rio de Janerio, Sao Paulo, Dallas, Los
Angeles, Vancouver, Anchorage, Melbourne, Perth, Singapore, Delhi,
Mumbai, Dubai, Addis Ababa, Athens, Amsterdam. These do not need to
organised 1/2 marathons - only a route - between 7-13.1 miles (we can
multi lap or run part twice to make it easier).

Dear Finners,

Iceland
=======

Each year, in August, a marathon (as well as half-marathon, 10 km run,
etc.) takes place in Reykjavik.

Iceland Marathon
<http://www.marathon.is/index.jsp?ib_page=217&iw_language=en> (this
year it will be on August 19th).

The marathon site also offers some ideas for running routes in
Reykjavik for the every day (or for training). The explanations on the
routes are in Icelandic, but the map is clear, and there is also a
link to a city map.

Where to Run in Reykjavik
<http://www.marathon.is/index.jsp?ib_page=329&iw_language=en>

City Map
<http://www.backman.is/mapofrvk/>

Another Reykjavik City Map
<http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/world_cities/reykjavi.jpg>

This is the site of a running club in Reykjavik. Yes, I know, the site
is in Icelandic. But I bet that the club people would love to run with
you when you drop by:
 Öl-hópnum

Contact man for the club: Prof. Ágúst Kvaran

Under "running" you can find a handful of other Icelandic running sites.

In Rio, "Run the Planet" has several suggestions for routes:
Run the Planet - Rio de Janeiro
<http://www.runtheplanet.com/location.php?q=2&l=896>

For example: " If you want a longer run, you can follow the bike track
from Copacabana to Ipanema. Although near Copacabana, Ipanema has his
own peculiar atmosphere. If you want to go even longer, the bicycle
lane along Flamengo and Botafogo is a great choice for a "Long Run".
You can run 12 miles coming from Botafogo to Santos Dumont Airport
through Flamengo Park."

It also has great running advice for Sao Paulo:
<http://www.runtheplanet.com/location.php?l=898>

For example:
"If you want to run in São Paulo's north zone (Santana's Ward) you can
choose Braz Leme avenue or Horto Florestal. At Braz Leme avenue you
can run 8 to 10 kilometers. Start at Braz Leme avenue, then turn right
at Santos Dumont avenue, then Olavo Fontoura street (you will pass in
front of Sambodromo, were the annual Carnival fest occurs). At the end
of this street you turn right (near Casa Verde bridge) and you are
again at Braz Leme avenue. You will do a circle. At Braz Leme avenue
there is a McDonald's restaurant and in front of it there is a police
station. It is a beautiful and safe place to run. Enjoy it!"

A local running club in Rio, Copacabana Runners, has on its site more
routes for you.
Copa Cabana Runners
<http://www.copacabanarunners.net/welcome.html> (go to "where to run"
on the left hand side menu; choose Rio de Janeiro; and choose Sao
Paulo, they have advices for both).

MapMyRun has several mapped running routes in these two cities:

Rio de Janeiro

The Rio Marathon's Website might also come in handy

The Sao Paulo Marathon and Half-Marathon have websites, but strangely
enough for an international event, they are Portuguese only:

Athens is notoriously smogged. Note this not-so-optimistic description
: ?Usually when I travel I can find some really running routes. Not so
in Athens. On one run I was nearly attacked by a German shepherd. The
worst part is I don?t believe he understood the expletives I shouted
towards him! After that experience, I resorted to training inside the
Village. The workout I settled upon was a set of 3 X 1 mile ? straight
uphill, with no curves. I literally was unable to see the finish point
(smog) from my start at the bottom of the Village.? (SOURCE: ?Jack

Finally, I was very offended that you?re planning a round the world
run and haven?t thought of dropping by these routes:
-	Tiergarten
-	Treptower Park and Spree-Park
-	Around the Mueggelsee
-	And many more that are available in Berlin (which, unlike Athens or
LA, is not all smoggy!).
