The national anthem of the Vatican, "Inno e Marcia Pontificale," as
generally performed today, uses Latin lyrics written by Raffaello
Lavagna. There are also Italian lyrics by Antonio Allegra, but the
Latin version is more common. The music was written by Charles Gounod,
who is probably best known as the composer of an immensely popular
opera, "Faust."
"Hymn and Pontifical March (Inno e Marcia Pontificale) is the national
anthem of the Vatican City. The Italian language lyrics were written

It was formally adopted by a decree of Pope Pius XII, to mark the 1950
