I'd like to know the size of the inkjet printer market in US homes —
how many are owned and used for recreational printing in this country.
If there's any breakdown of information by brand and media (paper)
usage, that'd be great too.

<The 2001 printer market was worth over $40 million. In the U.S. 70%
of householders in the 25-44 age group and 66% of the 45- 54 age group
own computers. 80% of computer owning households have inkjet printers.

The market leader in the printing industry is Hewlett Packard which
has 46% of the U.S. inkjet printer market. Lexmark has around 18-20
per cent of the market followed by Epson and Canon. These four market
leaders account for 95% of the inkjet market.

Future trends are likely to see the decrease of prices for printers as
competition increases. It is anticipated that manufacturers may start
to sell printers at a loss in order to get them installed in peoples
homes. They will then reap the profits from the sale of ink cartridges
and printing products.>
