It is generally realised that an AMD CPU would not fit on to an intel motherboard and would be completly incompatible if it did. Evaluate the selection process and configuration of a system board for a range of CPU's and socket types |

well...there are a number of different parts of youre question first thing i'd say is intel is more expensive, amd is better priced and are generally better pro's. amd has something called 939 pin package which is its current most popular 'socket type'. For intel you are probalby lookin at "LGA 755" which is its current most popular 'socket type'. personally i would go for an AMD 64 processor (x2 probably) . to find a mother board the best thing to do is look at the pin package (probably 939) and use that to firstly select a board...but theres more! u're processor will have a FSB speed (ie. old pentium 3's used pc133 sd ram which had a fsb of 133mhz) this will also depend on the processor, the board will have to support the processors speed and then the ram you select will have to function at the selected FSB speed, hope this helps |
