I'm working in India for a year and I'm worried about health
insurance. I want to find an insurance program so that if I'm
diagnosed with a life threatening disease, I can be treated in the US
rather than india. I want to be able to make the choice myself, but I
don't care about having coverage in India, because I will receive
insurance from my employer. Can you recommend some plans designed for
people in my position?

What you want is insurance which includes "medical evacuation".

There is a company named International Health Insurance,
http://www.ihi.com/english/individual/2.asp which offers plans for
people working in other countries. For instance, with their single
trip insurance, they will cover 100% of the costs to bring you back
home. Here is the full info:
http://www.ihi.com/include/fdc/ihidocuments/docView.asp?FPD9001=289&FPD9002=CON&FPO0150=2&FPD9201=2006
You can be covered for $300,000 for the trip.

Travel Insurance Services offers similar plans -

eGlobalHealth - http://www.eglobalhealth.com/
To help protect you against a medical emergency/illness while
traveling abroad. There are two Patriot Travel Medical Insurance
products available to meet your needs, providing up to US$2,000,000 of
medical coverage. Coverage can be obtained from a minimum of 5 days up
to a maximum of 2 years. Patriot products address the travel medical
insurance needs of US citizens and foreign nationals who need
temporary medical insurance while traveling for business or pleasure
anywhere outside their country of citizenship. Coverage includes
medical evacuation, repatriation, and your choice of deductibles and
policy limits.

Congratulations on the position in India, I wish you the best while
living and working there.

Just wanted to add that another name for medical evacuation insurance
is repatriation insurance. And here is another link:
