Question ID: 741989
My dad has an old PC program that sends a printout to COM1 of a PC.
This is the serial port and I want to upgrade his PC and printer but
he still needs to use this program.

I have tried a USB - serial convertor to try and fool it into printing
by USB but that didn't work. I have also tried to a MS Loopback and
sending all data for COM1 to the printer but that only works for LPTx.
I have also tried some software to convert com ports but these only
acted as a "virtual cable" between different com ports.

I basically want to print from this program from my laptop (only usb
connections) and chuck his PC out! Please help!

Hi boof9184,

You could try this shareware:

DOSPRN 1.78
"This program helps to extend the life of old DOS programs. Nowadays,
many laser and jet printers have powerful features but cannot print
simple text accurately. Besides, some inexpensive printers can not
print in text mode at all (the so-called win-printers)."
"DOSPRN allows you to use a good old DOS program with new printers
irrespective of their types (Yes, USB and network printers,
print-servers, and PDF-printers too!)"
http://www.dosprn.com/

Will look forward to hearing if it works for you,
hummer
