I was looking for the best deal for 6 adults to fly from San Francisco
to Barcelona to arrive in Barcelona on October 27, 2006, and returning
Nov 4

I have 2 adults and 2 children under 12 that we ideally also wanted on
the flight to fly from San Francisco to Barcelona - than to Sydney on
the same above mentioned flight from SF to Barcelona.

Go to http://www.travelocity.com/
Enter SFO in the From: field and BCN in the To: field.
Select the depart and return dates, choose 6 adults and click search
flights, and follow the directions from there.

As of now, there are much better deals on round trips than
one-way/multiple-destination trips and thus, for the 2 adults and 2
children, the prices are lower if they buy round trips from San
Francisco to Barcelona and then Barcelona to Sydney.
For example, right now, the lowest average price for one way from San
Francisco to Barcelona is $1,104.  If you want them to be on the same
plane as the 6 adults, it's $1,329.  However, if they buy round trip
from San Francisco to Barcelona, it's $937 per adult and $799 per
child.
It's the same case for Barcelona to Sydney.

Having said that, the best deals for one-way airline tickets are
available from within 60 days of the flight - if they book now,
they're getting little to no discount.  Booking later may risk not
being on the same flight as the 6 adults but a much better deal (also,
it is more likely than not that you could get on the same flight
during that time of the year).

Thus, my recommendation is to hold on the 2 adults and 2 children
until 60 days prior to October 27.  However, if you want to secure the
spot now, it is cheaper to buy round trip tickets.  If that is your
decision, please let me know and I will provide directions on where
and how to book the flight.
