I'm most interested in hard drive usage and any recent trends.   Extra credit
for coming up with a numerate calucation to determine the denominator
given the variability in PC specs

Hi. I wonder how this can be answered because both measure are
constantly being added to with companies making more hard drives every
day and people buying hard drives everyday. Its a bit hard to answer
due to the sheer number of hard drives being made and used.

I agree - at best, it would be a snapshot in time based on 2005 or most current data
