Over the past couple of years, I have created a few MS Word templates.

What I want to do now is:
(1) Delete some of those templates.
(2) Move the rest to a new folder.

The problem is, MS Word has been storing those old templates in a folder
that I don't have access to. The path and folder are:
c:\...\...\Application Data\Microsoft

When I use Windows Explorer, it shows no such thing as "Application Data"
under c:\...\...\

That's why I created a new folder, for all future templates.

In the meantime, I'd like to move some of the old templates to the new folder,
and delete all remaining old templates.

Would you please tell me how I can do this?

Rambler,

Do you have a path like this?
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft

Or this?
C:\Documents and Settings\YOurUserName\Application Data\Microsoft

Do you know the filename of any of your templates?

I have a path like your second example:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOurUserName\Application Data\Microsoft

And, yes, I do know the filenames of my old templates.

Are any of your templates in teh Application Data folders?

If you use Search from the Start Menu, does it locate your template files?

My templates are in the "...\Application Data\Microsoft" folder.

When I use Search, it finds my templates ONLY if I ask it to include
hidden and system files.

If you can find them, and therefore copy or delete them, does that
answer your question? Or is there something else you needed?

Well, now I feel foolish.

When I first did the search, the results appeared as icons in the
panel on the right, and the search controls appeared in the panel on
the left. This looked so alien to me -- I'm used to detailed file
names on the right, and a list of folders on the left -- that I never
went any further. It never occurred to me that I could copy and delete
those results.

Like I said, I feel so foolish. I have since deleted and moved the old templates.

Thanks for your help. Please post your answer.

Rambler,

The full path to the folders you refer to will be something like these:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Microsoft

You should be able to copy and delete your template files from these
locations. If you still can't find some of them, use the Search
function available from the Start menu to locate the remaining
templates, including system and hidden files. You can copy and delete
right from the Search results.

Rambler,

I'm not sure why you feel foolish. You are not the one who decided
that your own data needs to be hidden from you behind difficult to
locate settings and masked folder names. :)
