You refer to a question of faith!  However, seeing as though 98% of
the populatin of the planet believe in a deity of somekind - the
answer you may be trying to receive will probably simply create a
series of other questions.

There is, some will say, a huge amount of evidence to suggest there is
a God (or supernatural, supreme being) through the reports of miracles
and various visions and occurences.  However, the best answer to your
question much come form the quote from the Bishop of Tarbes last
century:

'For those who do not believe, no explanation is possible,  
 For those who believe, no explanation is necessary'

If you are looking for the absolute truth, then there does not exist
an absolute truth. Even if there is no evidence for a God, there may
be a God who does nothing.

Questions like this can only be answered in parts. For example: is
there visible intervention in our lives? would be a good start.

The question is of course erroneous and misleading.

Try, "Are there gods, goddesses, leprechauns, pixies, deamons,
unicorns etcela etcela etcela?"

Ask any 'believer' to define or describe their 'god/gods/goddess/s
etcela...' and you will get a different response every time x billions
x history.

Here's a thought - Your parents made you. Their parents made them.
Their parents made them. Their parents made them. Etcela...This
process goes back 3.5 (whatever) billion years. Each offspring
different (accross all complex multi-cellular life)
