There was a series of books that I read in the 80's about a girl and
an older guy. The girl was really sexy and I think a shoplifter.
"Luna" may have been in the titles. There was a movie version but the
girl was Asian in the movie version. I think they solved crimes or
something, maybe not. If this helps, I saw the movie at M.I.T. in the
80's.

I think "Delacorte" may be a key, either the author, publisher or a
name of a character.

Delacorte appears to be an imprint of randomhouse. I tried to match up
the names the publisher gave as prominent examples of authors of those
imprints with the Internet Movie DataBase, but none of the results
resemble your description. It might have been a more obscure writer or
the lineups might have changed a lot since the eithies. I will quote
the blurps they gave on Randomhouse's homepage below in hopes that
anything might perhaps ring a bell.

Delacorte Press Books for Young Readers, publishes literary and
commerical novels for middle-grade and young adult readers, as well as
nonfiction that crosses both educational and general interest
categories. Among the many bestselling authors published by Delacorte
Press Books for Young Readers are David Almond, Ann Brashares, Libba
Bray, Caroline Cooney, Robert Cormier, Lurlene McDaniel, Phyllis
Reynolds Naylor, Joan Lowery Nixon, Louis Sachar, Zilpha Keatley
Snyder, and R.L. Stine.

Delacorte Press Trade Paperbacks publishes literary as well as
commercial novels originally published in hardcover for middle-grade
and young adult readers. Many Delacorte Press Trade Paperbacks are
part of the Readers Circle publishing program and include exclusive

questions. In addition to reprints, the imprint also publishes
original paperback books including highly entertaining young adult
fiction as well as some nonfiction that crosses both educational and
general interest categories. The imprint?s bestselling authors include
Robert Cormier, Ann Brashares, Daniel Ehrenhaft, Da Chen, Simon Singh,
