Question ID: 743113
I need a web browser or program which allows me to both export &
import my browser history. I visit a website once a year, and I need
to know which links I followed the previous year. I also tried
copying and swapping IE's index.dat files in safe mode, but this
didn't work. Either the history info is not contained in that file,
or when I restarted, it noticed I swapped the file and it reclear it
the history. Anyway, the net is overrun with ways to ERASE history,
but I need a way of SAVING it.... and then reimporting it into the
browser to see where I left off in any particular website. I find it
interesting that IE conveniently left out the ability to import/export
it's history. It gives you the option to import/export favorites &
cookies only.

Hi Rainbow,
Yea, I saw that program when I did a google search, but it doesn't say
anything about being able to import your browser history back into a
web browser, so I don't see how it would help. I need the ability of
BOTH export & import of my browser history in order to keep up to date
on a website annually. There are many programs which allow you to
export and analyze your browser history, and I heard Firefox allows
importing history from IE during installation, but I haven't been able
to find any browsers which allow both import & export of the
history... or saving & reloading in the history file, so you know
which links you followed a year ago. This these abilities would make
an excellent research tool for anyone trying to keep tabs on the
latest information on a website.

I just found a program called History Collector Pro $30 Shareware.
It's at www.mulgra.com. It claims the ability to an IE plug-in for
import/exporting history. I tried it, and I wasn't able to get it to
work. Furthermore, I don't even know if it colors your fresh links
once you import your old history. The whole point of importing
history (for me) is so I know which links I haven't visited, so it
must be able to color fresh links as visited upon import, obviously.

Ok, the import worked, but it doesn't change the color of the links
that you are importing because you are simply importing saved webpages
from your hard drive, not links. The only links which are colored are
those which are stored in the history index.dat file on IE. This is
unable to change or override this. So, yes, I'm still looking.... let
me know if you find a program or browser which will color fresh links
as visited upon import of a history file.
Thanks!
