The hazard lights on my '99 Subaru Forester won't stop. How can I stop
this short of disconnecting the battery between drives?

They blink for approximately 2 minutes then off for 15 seconds, then
repeat. This only started recently. I believe it has been happening
for a few weeks intermittently but as of this morning this cycles
endlessly.
I assume it is not coincidental that I left my hazards on two days ago
(by accident) and found my battery dead this morning. After a quick
jump-start, and a 300 mile drive home, the battery is fine but, I'm
sure won't be for long with the unstoppable hazard lights.

The blinking cycle also affects the internal gauge lights, radio, and
cd. The displays on the radio and CD blink but, the units continue
uninterrupted.

What I have tried:
turned off/on almost all electric items in car
Stopped and started the car a few times
read the manual for indication of common fuses but found none

greg...

It sounds like the switch that turns the hazard lights on and off
is shorted, or mechanically stuck in the on position. I'd suggest
removing and replacing the switch.

Let me know where this takes you...
