I recently went into my OB/Gyn to have my blood pressure checked and 5
months after delivery my BP is still high 140/100. I suffered from
severe pre-eclampsia - hospitalized for 17 days and delivered at 36
weeks without complications - no mag - just epidural, pitocin and an
incredibly FAST 3 hrs of labor. I am still nursing and plan to
continue until my baby is a year old. I also would like to try to
have another baby when I get my BP under control and get back to my
pre-pregnancy weight. I am exercising four times per week. I never
had BP problems prior to pregnancy.

My questions are:
1. Could this HBP be a long lasting effect of the pre-eclampsia? (I
never had BP problems prior to pregnancy).
2. Should I consider taking blood pressure reducing medication? Will
it effect my desire to continue nursing? Can I continue taking it
during pregnancy to reduce risk of pre-eclampsia?
3. How long should I wait to stabilize my BP before trying to get
pregnant again? (I wanted to try again when my son is 12 months
old-thats 7 mths from July 06).

In rare cases pre-eclampsia does persist after delivery. However, to
adequately research your three questions will require a considerable
amount of time on the part of a Researcher. (Researchers are paid 75%
of the amount you offer. In this case, less than $2 for answering 3
questions.)

I can share my experiences with high blood pressure after delivery,
but of course, I encourage you to talk with your doctors.

Yes, it is rare for pre-eclampsia to continue after delivery (when it
does it lasts for about 6 weeks) and it's really rare for blood
pressure to increase after delivery, but it does happen.

My blood pressure increased very high after delivering my first child.
I was immediately put on blood pressure medicine. After a year I
started feeling very tired and having a slow heart rate. My bp had
lowered and I was taken off the meds. After my second child, my blood
pressure increased and I am on medicine again.

In both of my doctor's experiences, they have the best success rate
when medicines should be used for about a year to stabilize the blood
pressure.
