Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to customize the links which are colored as visited in my browser with my own 'visited links files.' IE doesn't allow import/export of browser history, but I found out the 'visited links directory' on my computer is: C://Documents.../<username>/Local Settings/History/Today/<website domain>/[visited links stored as internet shortcuts]. I'm able to move these internet shortcuts OUT of the directory, but when I try to copy the internet shortcuts back INTO the directory it gives me a circle with a line through it. If I can get WRITE access to the directory, I can effectively customize the colored links in my browser and keep track of the links I visited a year, 2, or 3 years ago for websites I'm trying to monitor "what's new." Otherwise, if you have any other ideas on how to quickly keep track of what's new on a large website on an annual basis, let me know. Thanks! |

You can mark a link to a page with a timestamp of when the page was created - at least you can on sites you control. Then you get to see the new page colour (blue) if it's been recreated since last time you looked at it. I do this often using cgi-style ?t=15000000 sort of thing even on text pages. The other thing you could do is use a proxy that's aware of what you've looked at and chooses colours according to this. I've thought of (but haven't done it) writing one to track google answers - mark questions that are new or have had new comments/answers since I last read them. It would be a bit of work but doesn't sound like rocket science. |

Thanks Bozo, yet these are not my sites, and I only know basic python... never heard of a proxy or writing one. |
