Question ID: 743749
My 10 year old son is allergic to dogs, both to dander and saliva :(
I'm aware there are breeds with little to no dander, that are well
tolerated by people with dander allergies. But are there are any
known breeds of dog of which the saliva produces no or at least less
allergic response?
Alternately, is there allergy drug therapy available for my son, IF we
decided to go that route, that would control the allergy and allow him
to be around dogs?

Oddly enough there are some dogs that are, for all practical purposes,
considered "hypoallergenic". Their saliva is less toxic to many of
those sensitive to the allergen and they shed with lesser frequency.
Please take a look at this article and let me know if it answers your
questions. I think it will provide you with a number of reasonable
options.

This site is very interesting, and I appreciate you bringing it to my
attention. Still can't find any specifics though as to which breeds
may have "less bothersome" saliva, in particular.
Thank you,
Kelly

Look up Bedlington Terriers, they are known for their minimum dander.
