Hi, I am developing a networking website for my collegemates. Where in they can record their voice or their video profile online live in my website and upload. Using webcams and microphones. I wanted a simple and reasonably priced solution as this for private and non-commericial use among our college. When i looked around i found in www.aff.com , they have this same system wherein once we register for free, we can also record our video or audio profiles and upload. So, i wanted to develop something similar to that wherein you can put in your profile, your photos, audio & video profiles, all in flash. Also i wanted to know if there is any freeware software which can convert any media files like mpeg, avi, wma into flash and then posted into the website as well. This will be useful if the internet connection isn't fast enought for online recording in the case above. My hosting server is a shared php based Linux server with other default stuff, let me know if have to add-in any other linux application.A handsome tip if the answer is in detail and precise. Cheers! Anyway you need to have enought access to install and execute daemons on your server. If you have access only to Web-server - nothing will do for your streaming. |

You do not need the things you are talking about. A usual CMS with file upload will do for you. Flash is always a barrier and a damn technology, full-flash sites are always very nasty to use. |

I don't think your going to try and find any freeware software which enables you to change things to flash. You say are at college, you can get Macromedia Studio 8, for £79.99. It should be about the same in the US, if you live there. The package contains Flash, Contribute, DreamWeaver, Flash Video Encoder- could be useful for you and Fireworks. You do not evidence of being a student though. |

For the main stuff I have no idea how you would be able to implement something like that which would require a lot of coding work and experience. I also dont get how getting Dreamweaver would make nething easy for this. First off you are going to need some sortof user interface where the people can upload their content (i dont know of any programs that can record from the browser so users will probably have to upload) and then all you need is a player that can play both video and audio which you can use quicktime, wmp, or just a flashplayer. This project might be somewhere to start http://sourceforge.net/projects/tsuka. As for the video to flash i dont know about freeware but there is a lot of shareware out there |

Hello arun_p-ga, I think the best solution for you would be streaming the videos trough flash instead of converting them to flash. But I've found applications to do both, have fun: ========== Converting ========== ffmpeg free project on sourceforge, shell application on linux. http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/index.html On2 Flix Engine software to convert, has a linux version (I've heard this is the tool YouTube guys use.) http://www.on2.com/ ========= Streaming ========= Tutorials on how to stream video using flash: http://www.communitymx.com/content/article.cfm?cid=7574E http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.asp?p=170179&rl=1 ===== Other ===== Also take a look at this, might interest you: http://www.pixpo.com/products/index.jsp I assume you have knowledge on how to make a webpage to upload the videos on the first place, in case you don't, ask me and I can probably help you. Using this PHP framework will help you a lot. http://www.symfony-project.com/ HTH, Eduardo Sampaio |
