I recently got my drivers license taken away from me. It was due to refusing a breathalizer test. They then proceeded to take a blood sample and then revoked my license on the spot and was released without a driving license. Now, i can't rent a car, i can't go to the bank etc. Basically, i would like to know what other state can i move to: to get a fresh start and get a new drivers license. I have made a decision to move and get relicensed in another state, which states will not look at the expired/revoked license or acknowledge this past? | |

You will get your hope sooner than you think. The police state your wishing and hoping for is coming your way and almost here, don't you worry. Infringements of all of your civil rights are being abused daily, the basis upon the founding of our united states has been moving towards a universal stronghold central government. That will identify every single move you and yours make, isn't that nice. Centrally controlled databases that track every transaction, every communication you make, how nice. I guess you'd also probally enjoy paying postage on every email too... and paying for all of your interstate internet tax transactions, even though it goes against the basis upon how and why our states joined the union and why we propered as a country, and where it was clearly stated not to tax interstate commerce, and to have strong states that can govern themselves, and too make the best decisions for their state, I bet you think that the states losing the ability to make thier own decisions is nice too. By the way, this is how you spell > license < Some American you turned out to be....Steph53 |

Existos... I am NOT an American eg: United States Citizen or whatever .... Please do not make "assumptions" on the internet. I live in Canada and we spell "licence" just like this. Steph53 |

This happened in America, and I am very very proud to be an American, and believe deeply in our country and our fundamental rights and laws. I also believe that in this great country you are innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, and this process obviously has not occurred. (yet the commentors are making some amazing leaps and jumps to conviction or guilt) It may be ok in your COUNTRIES to presume guilt before innocence, and maybe not even have a court to decide, but not here!! and thats what we need preserve and to keep in place, otherwise, our country will look something like yours, and that's definately what we don't want and why you live there and why we live here. Land of Free and Home of the Brave. Hoah! Also, I'm sure whatever countries you folks do come from, that your system probally needs alot more attention, then the time you are spending on this question. So, think about your country and work on it, I'm sure you need it a bit more than the attention you are contributing to this question. If anyone here is American, I'm sure you agree with innocent until proven guilty! and if you don't you should go to one of their countries, where you can be guilty until proven innocent!!! I also think that there are many blogs and forums that you can discuss your countries issues amongst your countrymen, so please waist your time fixing your country, and quite messin with my question. |

First, I pretty much agree with the other comments and think that DUI should have far stricter penalties... maybe 10-20 years in jail for your first offense? It's one of the few crimes where even the person committing it doesn't really know what damage they're going to cause. However, to answer you question... maybe a good place to start would be researching the "Driver's License Compact" which is the inter-state agreement regulating license data, and seeing if there are any states which have not signed it. Even if you find one, you'd probably have to lie on the application form if there's questions about ever having a license revoked elsewhere or being convicted of certain crimes. |

I really don't see why you can't go to the bank. Every state issues a non-driving ID card. These are generally not accepted for the purposes of purchasing alcohol - for obvious reasons - but hopefully if you have a passport (you say you're a foreigner), that'll be accepted. Have fun, don't drive anywhere near me please. PS..... DUI is special. You do not have the right to remain silent, to consult an attorney, or anything. Take it up with your average american who thinks that our rights are a "technicality". |

Why would non-driving ID not be good for buying alcohol? It certainly is accepted in New York. In NYC, many, many people do not drive. |
