What are the non-English lyrics at the beginning of Dead Can Dance's song "Rakim" from the album "Toward The Within"? I think they might be Latin but I'm not sure. |

This is a made-up language. Lisa Gerrard, of Dead Can Dance, often creates lyrics in an invented language. "What language does Lisa Gerrard sing? Only Lisa knows the answer to this question. Her vocals are mainly phonetics that are sprung from thoughts and emotion she feels as she sings." http://www.dcdwithin.com/dcd.pl?caduceus=faq "There are no real lyrics for that part... That's improvisation / personal language / sounds..." http://www.lisagerrard.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=15175&highlight=rakim |

Yes, several sites say that. Another one said that she grew up in an area in Australia in which she became familiar with Greek, Turkish and Arabic culture, no doubt hearing if not learning the languages. |
