I have iTunes set up on my G5 and also on my PC (Windows XP) but my one iPod won't share songs between the two because of formatting ---How can I move my songs and playlists between my two computers via my iPod? Or, last resort, will another USB device serve to move the songs between computers given the different formats? |

Here is a discussion of this: There are various programs that will let you do this: http://macs.about.com/od/ipod/a/copy_from_ipod.htm There is also a nice program called MacOpener that lets you share files between mac & pc: http://www.dataviz.com/products/macopener/ They say it works with ipod too. Also look here for a usenet discussion of this issue. It seems that if you initially set up the iPod on a PC, the Mac will read it but not vice-versa. I recall that someone I know got an iPOD and had songs transferred to it from a Mac and then had no problems moving more songs to it from his WindowsXP... Good luck and let us know how you make out... |

The easyest way to do this is to follow the steps below 1)Backup all your songs currentlly on your ipod 2)Connect your ipod to your pc and NOT your mac 3)format your ipod using the pc using the ipod updaters option called restore (ipod updater can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ ) 4)Put all your songs backon to the ipod Both your mac and your pc will now be able to read and write from your ipod without any difficulty. If you are intrested in the technical details of why this works it is because when you formated the ipod using your mac it automatically choosed the file system hfs wich only the mac can read, when you then reformat your ipod on your pc it defaults to fat32 wich both xp and mac osx can read. |
