Question ID: 744533
I need 20 to 100, preferably around 50, stainless steel Dzus or
Dzus-type fasteners for my race car. These are aircraft-type,
quarter-turn fasteners used to hold aluminum body panels in place, but are
quickly & easily removable (just a quarter turn) with a tool that
resembles a screwdriver. The fasteners engage a spring on the frame
of the car or aircraft, and "click" into place when secured. I am
having difficulty finding the size I need, and especially in stainless
steel. I need the recessed, flush fasteners with the flat head, and a standard
bite for the tool. (I could use some with hex, star, Philips or other
bites.) The size in inches, as measured by me, is: Across the head =
0.6880 to 0.6890, or just over 11/16" ; shank diameter = 0.4025 to
0.4030 (which is less than 7/16"); distance from flat top to bottom
of flare = .110 approx. ; length of the shank below the flare =
0.6085 to 0.610 ; and the overall
length, shank and head = 0.711 to 0.716 (which is less than 3/4"). I
believe they may come in numbered or lettered sizes rather than in
measurments. They may be metric. The fasteners I do have are well
made, the bottom edges are slightly rounded, and the cam-action ramps
which grab the springs are smooth. I do not need many of the spring
part that it grabs, although I will take some of those if available or
all if necessary. The typical price for these can range from $1 to $4
each, depending on the vagaries of the market. You find me a source,
and I'll be happy.

Are of any these stainless steel Dzus fasteners suitable?

The flat head ones are near the bottom of the page.

The flush ones at the bottom might work. The ones I have do not have
the smaller diameter channel under the head. The shank or shaft is
all one diameter, the same diameter as the lower ends of these. But
there are no measurements here, only the pictures. The 40, 45, 50 &
55 in the parts numbers must correlate to some sizing table to which I
am not yet privy. Without size info I'd have to buy a couple of each
to see which, if any, would work. But I am impressed with your speed
--you had a request for clarification before I had even seen my
question.

genemcftx-ga,

Check out the stainless steel fasteners here:

http://www.southco.com/product/partlist.aspx?cid=7438&page=1&filters=973

Measurements are provided.

Are these suitable?

Clarification of Question by genemcftx-ga on 08 Jul 2006 20:19 PDT
No, I need the measurements. I am not at all sure if any of these
will work. They are a little different in shape, too, the channel
under the head. I gave a lot of measurements to you, and what I
consider to be an adequate incentive to solve my problem. I have
already seen some sites like that one -- maybe that one -- it was
several weeks ago. See if you can find the Rosetta Stone that lets us
know which size is my size. I want to order around 50 from someone,
but I have to know what I am ordering. If I have to order one of each
of the ones you found to find out if any works, then order more the
ones that do, you will have solved my problem, but not as
expiditiously as I had hoped when I set the price. I am not trying to
be tough, here, but so far, I am not ahead of where I was before.

Thank you for the clarification. I will resume my search and hopefully
will locate the exact product you need. At the same time, I will open
up your question so that other researchers can work on this question
simultaneously.

Thank you for your patience.

Looks promising -- I'm currently out of town, all week. Next week I
will see if your answer works, then rate. If you solved my problem,
it will be good. Thanks for the apparently good work.
