I have been invited to assist with the upgrading and modernization of
the website www.thecoffeeguide.org which opened in mid-2005.
The website offers information on trade of coffee. Primarily green
coffee beans, i.e. non-roasted coffee which is the commodity traded
internationally.
The target audience are producers, cooperatives, exporters and others
in coffee producing countries. In other words people who often have
limited Internet facilities and/or only little experience with use of
websites.
The website is therefore deliberately relatively simple, e.g. with a
minimum of pictures, no moving parts etc.
The website has two main sections:
1. 500 text boxes with information on coffee trade issues, and
2. A Q&A service for users who do not find what they are looking for (+100
Q&As posted by end of June 2006).
The entire website is 99% identical in English, French and Spanish.
Some of the parts of the website need an up-date and also some
beautifications/modernizations scheduled to be done in August-Sept. 2006.
Before we (the coffee knowledgeable people) contact the webmaster and
IT-people it would be useful to have your view on the website.
User-friendliness, general shortcomings, suggestions for changes....Any
observations and pieces of advise you could offer would be appreciated.
Thanks,
