I have told the marketing manager that there is no more need for photo shoots, we can get graphic designers to "mock up" real looking images for us... now i want to show examples :-) Can anyone please point me to images that have been purely made on the computer (not necessarily ray traced etc... it might have been a designer doing each pixel if that's what it takes). I want to then print out some of these "realistic looking but not real at all" images and put them up with some real photographs and see if the marketing manager can pick which ones are actual photos. I don't think we'll quite change our photo shoots - but it will go some way into enlightning us into the capabilities of technology... Would appreciate if someone can point me to some such images (realistic looking but not real) and possibly some cases of people have experimented with a similar concept. The "photos" shold include humans ... ones that include humans that seem to express some emotion on their face would be excellent.

Hi simrangambhir, You'll enjoy the first two links if you haven't seen them already, it's just what you have in mind (except unfortunately, no people). A little challenge of 10 images (x2) - are they real or computer generated? Fake or Foto Version I http://www.autodesk.com/eng/etc/fakeorfoto/v1/index.html Fake or Foto Version II http://www.autodesk.com/eng/etc/fakeorfoto/index.html The following are particularly well done I think. 1) Pottery (I know you asked for people, but this one is good) http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/online/realistic/samovar.gif http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/online/realistic/ 2) Black & white young woman Viewers may find it hard to tell that this realistic image was computer-generated." http://www.jhu.edu/~newslett/03-8-01/Science/2.html 3) Scared face http://schestowitz.com/IMG/blog/scare.jpg http://schestowitz.com/Weblog/archives/2005/12/13/ 4) Female face http://www.uni-regensburg.de/Fakultaeten/phil_Fak_II/Psychologie/Psy_II/beautycheck/english/virtuelle/w_model_a.jpg 5) Female face http://www.uni-regensburg.de/Fakultaeten/phil_Fak_II/Psychologie/Psy_II/beautycheck/english/virtuelle/w_model_b.jpg 6) Female face http://www.uni-regensburg.de/Fakultaeten/phil_Fak_II/Psychologie/Psy_II/beautycheck/english/virtuelle/kindfrau_d_100.jpg 7) Male face http://www.uni-regensburg.de/Fakultaeten/phil_Fak_II/Psychologie/Psy_II/beautycheck/english/virtuelle/m_model_a.jpg 8) Male face http://www.uni-regensburg.de/Fakultaeten/phil_Fak_II/Psychologie/Psy_II/beautycheck/english/virtuelle/m_model_b.jpg 9) Male face http://www.uni-regensburg.de/Fakultaeten/phil_Fak_II/Psychologie/Psy_II/beautycheck/english/virtuelle/m_model_c.jpg Gallery view of faces: http://www.uni-regensburg.de/Fakultaeten/phil_Fak_II/Psychologie/Psy_II/beautycheck/english/virtuelle/virtuelle.htm 10) Time Magazine cover http://www.racialcompact.com/Time_Fall_1993.JPG http://www.racialcompact.com/nordishcrisis.html 12) Black & white face http://www.tvacres.com/images/computers_andromeda_face.jpg http://www.tvacres.com/computers_beings_andromeda.htm 13) Black & white face http://www.wiu.edu/users/sm100/pixelation/facetutorial/idealface-orig.gif http://www.wiu.edu/users/sm100/pixelation/facetutorial/index.html The following are less realistic. Morphing may be a more viable option for you, it uses photos to generate new faces.
