Who are the top data center providers in the U.S. today? What services
do they typically provide? How are the charges for these services
determined and what would the ?typical? menu and price list look like?
 What is the reach of these top providers?  Are they global in nature?
 Which ones are strongest on the east coast of the U.S.? How do they
differentiate themselves? i.e. what do they tout as their strengths
and how does the market view their relative merits and faults?

I would like this information on the leading 7-10 data center
providers and responses to the related questions no later than 3:00pm
EDT Thursday 7/13.  As is usually the case with Google Answers, I
would also appreciate the sources for the information generated.

Just thought i'd give my 2 cents since no one else has given any
advice. Also you might want to specify whether you're looking for
dedicated servers or to colocate your own equiptment in a datacenter.
I've had experience with a couple different hosting providers and both
dedicated and colocation service, though not with the same companies.
For colocation i've had very good experience with ServerMatrix located
down in Texas, they have a good mix of peering which helps to provide
multiple transit routes. They also have multiple datacenters with
their own fiber network connecting them together. Another good
provider on the east coast is ezzi.net and more info about them can be
found on their website. As for the other information you requested I
don't have the time or resources to provide that detailed level of
information. I would however refer you to
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ which is a forum with a wealth of
information on all aspects of webhosting and its associated
industries. Posts on their forums would likely get you alot of
information, as well as their are hosting providers who regularly
browse the forums and offer advice as well as services.

Thanks for taking the time to provide some advice. I will definitely
check out both providers you mentioned and the forums on the
recommended site.

I am trying get a sense of how an outfit like ServerMatrix measured up
to an ACS or CSC. That is, I am looking for a scorecard that will tell
me who the players are, what their batting average is, and the
market's sense of their wins and losses.  My guess is that a
_Datamation_ chart somewhere has 80% of the info I am looking for.
