Please only answer if you know something about this sector, or can

I want to approach a small jet manufacturer based in the US that will
be launching a revolutionary small jet for the private jet and jet
taxi markets. My aim is to become an independent sales agent for them
in Mexico, ideally with exclusivity.
I looked at their web page and this company does not seem to have
distributors - it looks like it?s only direct sales. Right now it is
only taking orders and non-refundable deposits, as the first jet will
not roll off the plant until later in the year.
I need to approach them with a proposal, but first I want to learn a
few things about this market.
- Is it common practise or a practise at all to have independent sales
agents in this industry?
- If so, what are the types of arrangements -i.e. share of
responsibilities and rewards?
- Are there sales commissions in this market ? If so, what range ?
-Are there referral or introduction commissions in this market? If so, what range?
- What minimum capabilities would the manufacturers require from the
sales agent ? What experience ?
- What are my chances ? How should I pitch myself?
Any other information that would help me craft my proposal and seem
more knowledgeable of the industry practises would be highly valued.
Information about me:
- Private jet sales experience: none
- Existing physical infrastructure (e.g. a shed in an airport): none
- Contacts: all the contacts in the world, in Mexico. I already have a
good number of potential buyers, individual and corporate, who would
kill to have this new design. I also know individuals who already sell
into this market, and others who sell complementary products (yachts,
Ferraris, etc) ? some would be competitors, others might collaborate,
and yet others would happily share their contact list for a piece of
the pie.
- Ability to generate new leads: very high. Through my own network, I
can reach almost anyone in Mexico, both as individuals and as
institutions, both private and public. I already know quite a few
private jet owners who are status symbols within their peer community.
- My ability to develop a successful marketing strategy: very high.
That?s what I have been doing for a living the past 6 years,
developing and implementing business plans. I know how to research the
market and profile potential buyers, even in the absence of contacts.
- I am currently managing a family business in Mexico in a totally
unrelated field (education), after 7 years of post-MBA consulting and
management experience in the UK. |

Yes, that?s the one. I?ve read articles about them in other sources
(e.g. The Economist, where company?s leaders make mention of the
Indian market as a promising area of growth for their product.
They do not mention the market on their doorstep, Mexico, which is
probably the second largest market in the world for private jets,
after the US.
This product, given its price, flight range and ability to land in
smaller airstrips, would open up a whole new segment in Mexico.
I will have a look at the article you posted. Coincidentally, many of
the potential buyers I know personally are yacht owners, and many fly
from Mexico City to the coast in small, propeller planes - because
they enjoy flying, but do not see the point of spending 5 or 10
million USD on a private jet, not to mention the running costs.
