I'm currently running Mac OS X on my iMac with MSN Messenger 3.0 for Mac. The problem is that my machine is connected to the internet behind a firewall. This only allows http connections through so I'm only able to use Internet Explorer. I know that for Windows there is a piece of software called HTTP Tunnel (www.http-tunnel.com) which provides a solution to this problem but unfortunatly this only works on a PC. I have looked on the internet to try and find a simler piece of software or solution for the Mac but to no avail. The solution to this problem would not be to reconfgure the firewall as I'm at university and I have no access. |

I had a little look for you, and couldn't find a program that would do the job of http-tunnel for the Mac. Your best bet is probably trying to change the configuration of your firewall or of your MSN messenger. This page is from the microsoft website, and is refers to Windows XP, but seems to outlines configurations that will and will not work for MSN messenger and firewalls: Windows Messenger in Windows XP: Working with Firewalls and Network Address Translation Devices http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/techinfo/deployment/natfw/winmesconfig.asp#winmesconfig Also, this site seems to talk about relevant issues: http://help.microsoft.com/EN_US/HelpWindow_msg.asp?INI=msgr_msnv45.ini&H_VER=1.7&H_APP=MSN%20Messenger On looking back, it seems that these are applicable to Messenger 3.5 and later. I hope this will help in some way. It's a hard life having a Mac... I wouldn't know it! Thanks, Bobby_d-ga |

I wonder if someone can find a tunnel that will run in the underlying Unix of Mac OSX. I believe OSX uses the BSD flavor of Unix. |

I did wonder if there would be a piece of software for Unix but not ever having used Unix outside of OS X I wasn't sure quite what to look for or if it would be suitable for this problem. If someone with a greater knowledge of Unix could shed some light on this it would be appreciated. |
