Hello johnt13055:
Thanks for your interesting question.
To answer your question, let's first look at the sales growth for the
more "established lines" that you mentioned in your clarification. The
following figures that I quote are for *total/net revenue* for each of
the companies. While these figures will exist primarily of apparel,
you should consider that there would be a little non-apparel revenue
for each of these companies. (However, since we're looking for
relative growth numbers here, I do not believe this will skew our
results.)
[Note: I could note find good data for Miller's Outpost, so I
substituted Polo.]

OK. Now that we've covered the "established lines", let's have a look
at the "urban designer" labels sales growth. Since many of the
companies listed (especially those in bobbie7-ga's Clarification
Request) are both very *new* and *privately owned*, I had to find what
sales data I could by exhaustive searching through news articles and
other websites. I was not able to find cold, hard figures for all
companies - in some cases I was, however, able to find year-to-year
comparisons without the underlying sales data. I think that the amount
(and quality) of information I was able to find is sufficient to
support my conclusions.

Conclusions
***********
Given the above data, I think it is statistically valid to say that
the annual growth rate for "urban designer clothing" lines is
significantly greater than that of the "traditional brands." In fact,
industry-wide, it appears that the urban clothing market is growing at
a 50%-100% annual rate over the last 2-3 years, while the "established
lines" have grown marginally or not at all over the same period.
In fact, the urban clothing market is outstripping the entire apparel
industry, which is showing a modest growth rate of less than 5%.
However, the entire urban clothing market still represents less than
1% of the *U.S.* fashion industry. There is no data to support that
these new labels will overtake the total sales figures of the more
established lines anytime in the near future - if ever.

To find the data about companies, I created searches like:
"#Company Name#"
"#Company Name#" revenue
"#Company Name#" sales million
"#Company Name#" sales #YEAR#
where #Company Name# was replaced with the individual company and
#YEAR# was replaced with 1999, 2000, 2001, or 2002.
Other searches that I did include:

"hip-hop fashion" sales billion
