What is the etymology of the exclamation, "Yeesh!"?

It's those Scandihoovians' way of saying "Jeesh", an abbreviated form
of "Jesus", used as an exclamation.  Everyone knows that they can't
pronounce a "J" sound, unless they are trying to say "Yale" or
"Yonkers".

I've always assumed that "yeesh" was a Yiddish expression. Sounds like
one, anyhow. It resembles the Yiddish exclamation "yech!"
