On Ellis Island ship records a relative with Austria/Polish Ethnicity
has listed his last place of residence as "Telosnicasanna" (at least
this is what the ellis island text version of the ship manifest". I
believe that he came from Gailicia which has changed hands many times
as I understand. I would like to understand where his place of
residence was to further my research. The ship he was on departed
from Hamburg in 1903.

Seems like it's gotta be this place:

but it's in Poland. Does that jive with your family history?

Actually, I'm quite sure this is the place, as I found another
reference to it being in Galicia, Poland:

...I am also looking for SUCHY ancestors in the former Galicia area. I
have researched my SUCHY ancestors back to Nicolai SUCHY, born about
1809, probably in Telesnica Sanna, Galicia, Poland. Telesnica Sanna is
about 10 miles from the Czech border & about 10 miles from the Ukraine
border.

By the way, I used the "sounds-like" search feature at this site:

http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/LocTown.asp

to look for town names that were phonetically similar to the name you
were looking for. It doesn't always work, but it certainly did in
this case.

All the best,
