Try this: under the "Help" menu at the top of the screen, select
"About Internet Explorer."

If for some reason you are unable to open IE to view the Help -> About
(IE is corrupted) then you can check the Windows Registry.  To check:

1. Go to Windows Run (Windows key + 'R') and Open "regedit"
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Internet Explorer
3. There is a field call 'Version'.  This is the IE version.

pink is right
and if you are experienced with regedit and only if you are then try
the other steps.
once you open the version it will be listed as a number. if you have
windows xp most likely it will be version 6.00._
